M-Strings was set up in 2003 to collaborate with reggae artists Bob Andy and Marcia Griffiths for Young, Gifted and Black concerts at London's Hammersmith Apollo. The following year, M-Strings was invited to perform with the Jamaican reggae artist Kevin Sanchez at the Apollo and Birmingham NIA (broadcast live).

M-Strings has subsequently broadened its collaborative scope, providing orchestrations for films and transcriptions for artists such as Marina and the Diamonds, and working with with international musicians in diverse genres and styles from around the world.

M-Strings fixed all orchestral musicians for Rosenau Sinfonia's premiere performances and recording - for the Naxos label - of Timothy Hamilton's Requiem for the Fallen, conducted by the composer with the stellar soloist line up of Ilona Domnich, Jennifer Johnston, Nicky Spence and David Stout, The release received much critical acclaim, and was put forward for a Grammy nomination in 2018.

Highlights of recent seasons for M-Strings musicians include a gala performance - From Broadway to Hollywood - at the Santa Maria Polo Club in Sotogrande, Spain, for the José Carreras Foundation; new London performances of Requiem for the Fallen; a fundraising concert for the Stuart Low Trust at St Paul’s Church in London’s Covent Garden; and four concert/theatre/opera collaborations for the Samoan arts collective GAFA.

M-Strings’ musicians have performed in such diverse venues as the Royal Festival Hall and Glastonbury Festival. Their core membership comprises award-winning and versatile freelance musicians who regularly play in the top UK orchestras and West End shows, at prestigious international festivals, for film and pop sessions, and alongside artists such as the late Barry White, Alison Goldfrapp, Robert Miles, Jeff Beck, James Tormé, Dame Shirley Bassey, and the late Burt Bacharach. 

 

M-Strings' musicians have also made numerous TV appearances backing artists on Breakfast TV, MTV, Top of the Pops, Parkinson and the BBC Electric Proms.
